New York-based Bruin Sports Capital has "again dipped into the talent pool" of former IMG execs to hire former Senior VP/Consulting DAVID ABRUTYN as Exec VP & Principal. Abrutyn, who spent 15 years at IMG, "parted with the company in July, months after IMG was acquired by WME." Abrutyn represents Bruin Founder GEORGE PYNE's "second major hire since forming Bruin in January" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/2 issue).

TECH SUPPORT: S.F.-based mobile marketing company Phizzle Senior VP/Sales & Business Development MICHAEL FALATO has left the firm after 18 months. He previously had been with Mobivity and its predecessor Txtstation. His position was eliminated following Phizzle's recent deal with SAP to create a comprehensive digital marketing solution for sports and entertainment properties (Eric Fisher, Staff Writer).

EXECS: MLB Dir of Business PR JEFF HECKELMAN has left the league office, where he had worked since '08. Heckelman played an active role in MLB's various social media activities and the recently shuttered Fan Cave. His position was eliminated in the ongoing restructuring of the commissioner's office (Fisher)....Appalachian State Univ. formally introduced Univ. of Missouri Deputy AD DOUG GILLIN as AD. Gillin had been outgoing MU AD MIKE ALDEN's "right hand man since he rejoined the university May 1, 2012." Gillin during the last three years "oversaw external operations" (K.C. STAR, 2/28)....Coastal Carolina Univ. named interim AD MATT HOGUE to the position on a full-time basis (THESUNNEWS.com, 2/27)....Tufts Univ. named Colorado State Univ. interim AD JOHN MORRIS AD. Morris had served in the interim position at CSU since August, when JACK GRAHAM was fired (DENVERPOST.com, 2/27)....Former Chargers GM A.J. SMITH has "decided to retire" after spending the past two seasons as a consultant for the Redskins (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 3/1)....The Dolphins named EPL club Tottenham Head of Medical Services WAYNE DIESEL Sports Performance Dir. The club also promoted Head Analyst DENNIS LOCK to Dir of Analytics (MIAMI HERALD, 3/1).
