Franchise Notes

In Toronto, Tara Deschamps reports tickets to the Blue Jays' home opener on April 13 against the Rays are "already being flogged for more than quadruple the face value after the seats sold out within minutes" yesterday morning. Tickets went on sale at 10:00am ET, but Blue Jays VP/Communications Jay Stenhouse confirmed that they were "all gone minutes later." By noon, StubHub "had 3,992 tickets available for fans." The team said that "'a minimal number of tickets' were being reserved" for players and league officials. If returned to the club, the team "vowed to make the seats available for public sale" (TORONTO STAR, 2/19).

STAN THE MAN: In St. Louis, Jim Thomas notes Rams GM Les Snead "has no problems" with team Owner Stan Kroenke. Snead said yesterday, "I give him unbelievable thumbs up. He’s competitive ... the guy wants to win. Even in St. Louis where you’re a lower-revenue team, never once has there been a problem with not being able to stay in and compete (financially)." Snead added, "The guy knows sports. He’s got a lot of sports teams. There’s a rational patience to him, where you can tell him your process and he’ll let you evolve and see if it works" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 2/19).

UNITED WE STAND: In DC, Steven Goff reported DC United is in talks with GM Dave Kasper "about a contract extension." Kasper, whose deal expires in December, has "overseen player personnel decisions" since '02, first as the Technical Dir and then GM. Kasper received "greater autonomy following president Kevin Payne‘s departure" in late '12. During Kasper’s 13-year tenure, DC United has "won one MLS Cup, two Supporters’ Shields and two U.S. Open Cups and qualified for the playoffs seven times" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 2/18).
