Executive Transactions

Disney promoted Disney Parks & Resorts Chair TOM STAGGS to COO. Staggs "beat out" Disney CFO JAY RASULO to become the company’s No. 2 exec, a post that "makes him the favorite" to replace Chair & CEO BOB IGER in '18. All of Disney’s divisions, including ESPN, "will now report jointly" to Staggs and Iger, "who has run Disney since 2005 without a second in command" (N.Y. TIMES, 2/6). Iger has said that he "will step down at the end of his current contract." Staggs "essentially has three years to prove to Disney’s board of directors that he is the best successor." Sources said that Staggs was the favorite because he is "more outgoing and charismatic" than Rasulo, plus "more in the mold" of Iger (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 2/6).

COMMUNITY ORGANIZER: The Boston 2024 organizing committee named City of Boston Chief of Operations JOE RULL Chief Administrative Officer. Rull "joins one of the most politically connected teams ever assembled for a supposedly nonpolitical venture." Rull said that part of his job "will be to use his deep knowledge of the neighborhoods as a liaison between Boston 2024 and the community." That role was "overdue to be filled" (BOSTON GLOBE, 2/6).
