Super Bowl Marketing Notes: NFL Rep Snatches Sony Headphones From Sherman

USA TODAY's Lorenzo Reyes noted amid "the craziness" at yesterday’s Super Bowl Media Day, someone in the crowd gave Seahawks CB Richard Sherman an iPad with some headphones. The request was for Sherman to "watch a video and sing along with the beat," but an NFL assistant "quickly took the headphones away." Reyes: "The headphones were Sony. The NFL partners with Bose. Sherman is an ambassador of Beats by Dre" (USATODAY.com, 1/27). Meanwhile, in Seattle, Matt Pentz noted every inch of available arena surface at Media Day "was purple, fitted with LED lights, and nearly all of it was branded." Gatorade bottles "framed the microphone stand," while Gatorade towels "sat on the table and Gatorade logos dotted the backdrop" (SEATTLETIMES.com, 1/27).

SOFT OPENING: Microsoft endorser and Seahawks QB Russell Wilson yesterday said of the NFL incorporating Surface tablets onto its sidelines, "It's been huge for us on the field." Wilson added, "It allows me to zoom in, it allows me to get some extra detail that I need to know, and also the efficiency of it all. I think that it helps our defense but also helps our offense, and I utilize it. I'm usually an old-school guy, I’m usually a paper-and-pen guy. But to be able to do all the things I can on the Surface, I use it in my everyday life, too, so it really helps me. I think it's a difference maker. I think it helps us" ("Super Bowl Live," NFL Network, 1/27).

DEUCE IS LOOSE: In Dallas, Tiney Ricciardi noted fans "can still get real merch" from some of the fake businesses that Super Bowl advertiser Wix.com created as part of its ad. Double Duece T-shirts being sold online around the fake business created for Pro Football HOFer Emmitt Smith "are currently out of stock" (DALLASNEWS.com, 1/27).
