Packers Purchase Final Land Parcel Intended For Commercial Development Project

The Packers have purchased the "final property" in their efforts "to give them ownership of all the land" in an area they plan to build a multipurpose commercial development, according to Richard Ryman of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. Acquisition of the Road Star Inn in Ashwabuenon, Wis., "gives the team 62 parcels west, south and east of Lambeau Field." The land "totals more than 65 acres," and is assessed at nearly $49M. Property taxes on the land are $962,992.10. The franchise "plans to develop land west of Lambeau Field to provide it with nonfootball sources of income, similar in concept" to Patriot Place adjacent to Gillette Stadium. The Packers "have not disclosed development plans for the area, but they razed most of the buildings" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 1/27).
