Seahawks To Add 1,000 Seats To CenturyLink Field, Create New "12 Flag Pavilion"

The Seahawks "are planning to add 1,000 seats in the upper level of the south end zone" at CenturyLink Field in time for the '15 season, bringing the stadium's capacity to "just over 69,500," according to sources cited by Bob Condotta of the SEATTLE TIMES. The project would be "the first significant expansion in the history" of the facility. Sources said that the expansion, which will "be paid for by the Seahawks" and cost an estimated $5-6M, is "the centerpiece of a project that will be called the Toyota Fan Deck." The 1,000 padded seats "will be sold as season tickets but won’t satisfy" the team's "long waiting list." Sources said that the seats "will be in two new sections flanking the area where the 12th Man flag resides." The project "will include construction of a new 12 Flag Pavilion designed to enhance the experience of the raising of the flag, which is performed just before kickoff before every home Seahawks game, a tradition that dates" to the '03 season. The flag "will be raised on the roof of the pavilion." The fan deck will also "feature an 8-foot-long fireplace, multiple televisions showing NFL RedZone, other NFL games and the Seahawks game, views of the field, and exclusive food and beverage stands." The Seahawks this year "capped season tickets at 63,000, the most in the franchise’s 39-year history" (SEATTLE TIMES, 1/25).
