GoPro Signs Sponsorship Deal With NHL, Camera Company's First Leaguewide Pact

The NHL has signed a North American partnership with GoPro, the first league-level deal for the personal camera manufacturer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. GoPro and the NHL will debut the partnership during the upcoming All-Star weekend. Players will wear GoPro cameras along with live broadcast wireless transmitters during the skills competition Saturday night, providing viewers with real-time content and additional angles and views on the ice. It is anticipated that GoPro points-of-view will be used during the live broadcast of the All-Star Game on Sunday as well. Those events will be broadcast on NBCSN, CBC and TVA Sports. The deal follows a content-sharing agreement between the two sides signed before the season. That deal aimed at providing broadcast enhancements. Similarly, the league with the new deal plans to use GoPro’s equipment and expertise on immersive perspectives to provide viewers with additional content during national and regional broadcasts, as well as across its digital and social platforms, throughout the rest of the season. Details on how GoPro cameras might be used in regular-season matchups were not disclosed. Per the terms of the deal, GoPro will become an official partner of the NHLPA. NHL video content also will be shown on GoPro’s YouTube channel.
