CBS and Turner both "indefinitely suspended basketball analyst Greg Anthony on Saturday after he was arrested Friday on a charge of soliciting a prostitute," according to Neil Best of NEWSDAY. Anthony "is the lead analyst on CBS' college basketball telecasts, including during that network's and Turner's coverage of the NCAA Tournament." He also "works for NBA TV." CBS in a statement noted Anthony "will not be working again for CBS this season." Anthony "had been scheduled to analyze" the Michigan State-Maryland game at Xfinity Center on Saturday (NEWSDAY, 1/18). In N.Y., Bob Raissman wrote CBS and Turner "did not dump any run of the mill analyst" when they suspended Anthony, as he is "one of the best in the game." This is a "huge fall" for Anthony, one of the "biggest in sports broadcasting." Sources did not comment as to whether Anthony "would even return" in '16. CBS and Turner "are faced with filling a huge void." Not only "have they lost Anthony ... but Turner lost Steve Kerr, its former No. 1 mouth, who left broadcasting" to coach the Warriors (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/18). In Tampa, Tom Jones wrote his initial thought was that suspending Anthony for the remainder of the season "was somewhat surprising and did seem excessive." However, CBS "really had no choice." Jones: "It's a serious charge, a charge that embarrasses the network and a charge involving a crime that is not a victimless one" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 1/19).
