Spire Capital Partners Selling Majority Interest In PBR, With No Timetable Set

Private equity firm Spire Capital Partners is selling its majority stake in the PBR nearly eight years after buying the controlling interest in the bull riding organization. PBR Chair & CEO Jim Haworth said Thursday that N.Y.-based Evercore Partners has been brought on to find a potential buyer. “We’re excited about the performance we’ve had the last few years, but the best time to look at a transition like this is when things are going well,” Haworth said. “It’s the right time to look at that transition.” Haworth would not say how much of an interest Spire had in PBR, which bought into the organization in '07. Haworth added no sale timetable has been set. Evercore also has been retained by Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov in his attempt to sell his 80% stake in the franchise, as well as by Forest City Enterprises for its 55% sale of Barclays Center, which is valued at $1.1B. PBR last year extended its media-rights agreement with CBS Sports and in December announced a one-year deal with Carbon Media to stream live and archived content online.
