Donnie Nelson Among Sports Execs Involved With The Launch Of Professional Futsal League

The Professional Futsal League was announced Tuesday, with Mavericks President of Basketball Operations & GM Donnie Nelson serving as the "lead investor" in the venture and former FC Dallas President & GM Michael Hitchcock serving "as the new league's President," according to Buzz Carrick of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. U.S. national futsal team coach Keith Tozer "will be commissioner of the league." In addition to Nelson, Quest Resource Holding Corp. CEO, President & co-Founder Brian Dick "joined the initial group of lead investors." Play in the PFL "will begin in two years," and the league "will sponsor its first international tournament" this March. Futsal is a sport consisting of teams playing five-on-five soccer on a hard court, and Ohio-based Mitre USA has "designed the official PFL match ball as the league's first corporate partner." The league indicated that franchise commitments "have already been secured from existing sports entities." Carrick: "Given Donnie Nelson's involvement, is it fair to guess the Mavericks will be involved potentially as the first team?" (DALLASNEWS.com, 1/13).
