Veteran college basketball referee KARL HESS "has worked his final" game in the ACC and "has withdrawn himself from assignments with the American Athletic Conference." He also has "withdrawn himself from all SEC games for the rest of the season." Hess was "accused of directing an ethnic remark at Atlanta hotel magnate MIT SHAH" during the Jan. 5 Louisville-Wake Forest game. Shah, a former WFU BOT Chair, "is of Indian descent." He tweeted that Hess said to him during the game, "I want to sit in your seat & watch your Egyptian ass ref a game." Hess on Friday said, "It's a sad day and is devastating. But I'm responsible" (ESPN.com, 1/9).

SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK: The College Football Playoff Foundation and ESPN "have teamed up to fully fund" all Dallas and Arlington Independent School District classroom projects listed on DonorsChoose.org. The funding "will fulfill about 190 classroom projects totaling around $200,000."
