Cavaliers App Now Offering Live-Stream Of Fox Sports Ohio Game Broadcasts

Fans can now "watch every Fox Sports Ohio broadcast" of a Cavaliers game on a mobile device, "a game-changing development that for the NBA has been years in the making," according to Kevin Kleps of CRAIN'S CLEVELAND BUSINESS. FS Ohio GM & Senior VP Francois McGillicuddy said that the net eventually "could sell ads specifically for the live-streaming broadcast." Fox Sports Senior VP/Mobile & Advancement Platforms Clark Pierce said, "We're building an audience. There certainly is an advertising opportunity. We're still working through that from a back end, technical perspective. We have to make sure we can support whichever way (the regional networks) want to go." Neither McGillicuddy nor Pierce "wanted to disclose viewership numbers, which obviously pale in comparison to those watching NBA games on TV." The team launched a new app in October, and Cavaliers VP/Digital Mike Conley said that more than 100,000 people "have already downloaded it." He added that the app "will soon work in concert with Fox Sports Go." A button "will let fans know when a live broadcast is available, and when they click on it, it will launch the Fox Sports Go app." The Cavaliers have "started a 'multichannel marketing effort' to promote their new app." Fans browsing the app during a game also "will notice that replays are available from three camera angles." Conley said that there "will be in-game replays available from six angles" by mid- to late January. Kleps notes the timeline "coincides with the completion of a new production studio at Quicken Loans Arena" (CRAIN'S CLEVELAND BUSINESS, 1/4 issue).
