Changing Courts: Andy Murray Officially Signs Four-Year, $23M Deal With Under Armour

Tennis player Andy Murray on Tuesday officially “signed a four-year deal with Under Armour to wear the company’s products,” according to Sara Germano of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. A source said that the deal is valued at roughly $23M in total, with “potential for bonuses” depending on Murray’s on-court performance. Germano notes the move reflects the "high-stakes jockeying” between UA and adidas, which had Murray “under an endorsement contract set to expire this year.” A source said that Murray “will continue to wear Adidas shoes until Under Armour develops proper tennis footwear” for Murray (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 12/31). UA said that Murray will "appear in marketing campaigns" as part of the deal, which the company hopes will result in "boosting its international presence.” UA Global Communications Senior Manager Erin Wendell declined to say whether UA "will design a signature collection for Murray.” Analysts said that the signing of Murray will raise UA’s international profile. UA’s sales outside of North America made up 5.9% of its ’13 sales (MARKETWATCH.com, 12/30).
