Overnight Ratings: New Orleans, Las Vegas Lead Opening Day Of College Bowl Games

College bowl season began on Saturday, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl leading the way in overnight ratings. Louisiana-Lafayette’s 16-3 win over Nevada in the New Orleans Bowl on ESPN at 11:00am ET drew a 1.6 overnight, up from a 1.4 for the same bowl last year, which saw Louisiana-Lafayette play Tulane in a primetime matchup. ABC also drew a 1.6 overnight for Utah’s 45-10 win over Colorado State in the Las Vegas Bowl, down sharply from a 2.3 for USC-Fresno State last year. ESPN also drew a 1.3 overnight for Utah State-UTEP in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl at 2:15pm, down from a 1.9 for Colorado State-Washington State last year. The drew a 0.8 overnight for Air Force-Western Michigan Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at 5:45pm, down from a 1.5 for San Diego State-Buffalo last year. ESPN’s Bowling Green-South Alabama matchup in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl late in primetime on Saturday drew a 0.6 overnight. It was the event’s first year.
