Chick-Fil-A Takes Advantage Of Wizards' Desire To Get In On Free Chicken Promo

Wizards players recently expressed that they "wanted chicken" from Chick-fil-A after fans got loud for an in-game promotion involving the QSR, so the team and Chick-fil-A marketing execs on Thursday "arranged for a massive post-practice drop of Chick-fil-A food at Verizon Center," according to Dan Steinberg of the WASHINGTON POST. The Wizards' in-game promotion happens in the fourth quarter, when fans "get the right to acquire a free chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A if an opposing player misses both free throws" during a trip to the line. This often "leads to the loudest moments of many home games." Players have noticed this, as F Drew Gooden last week said, "You know what, I’m about to start redeeming my season tickets and start getting my Chick-fil-A, because I haven’t had one Chick-fil-A sandwich yet." Wizards C Marcin Gortat added, "Whoever is listening, I want 12 nuggets, double Chick-fil-A sauce, and the sandwich No. 4 with pepper jack cheese. ... I hope there’s gonna be other companies that’s gonna give out different things in the third quarter, the second and the first, so then we’re gonna have even more crowd, and the crowd’s gonna be even louder." Gortat on Thursday "went into the family lounge, where much food and sauce," as well as the company's cow mascot awaited. Gorat: "That's what I'm talking about. Boy, you guys got everything I asked for." Fairfax-based Chick-fil-A franchisee John Natolly said to Gortat, "You caused a big hubbub" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 12/18).
