Providence AD Hopes Fox Can Reduce Number Of Late-Window Weeknight Broadcasts

Providence College AD Bob Driscoll hopes that changes can be made to the Big East's television contract with FS1 that "either limit 9 p.m. starts for East Coast cities ... or make sure the late TV window is filled with a marquee matchup that would draw fans no matter what time a game is played," according to Kevin McNamara of the PROVIDENCE JOURNAL. PC on Monday played Brown at 9:00pm, one of seven such starting times for the school this season, and "to say that the game went off before a light crowd is being generous." Driscoll said that FS1 "is looking for Big East games to fill up weeknight TV windows to lead into" the 11:00pm broadcast of "Fox Sports Live." Driscoll: "The issue for Fox is they want programming that leads into their studio show. We have roughly the same number of nine o’clock games across the conference this year but a game on a Monday night is difficult. It’s a tough sell.” He added, “A game later in the week is better for us than a Monday but the tradeoff is the national exposure. Sometimes you have to give up your gate for the TV coverage." This is the second year of a 12-year, $500M rights deal between the Big East and Fox (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 12/9).
