Another Galaxy: MLS Cup Finale Sees Strong Audience Gains On Both ESPN, UniMas

ESPN finished with 964,000 viewers for the MLS Cup Sunday afternoon from 3:00-6:17pm ET, marking a 91% increase compared to the title game last year (505,000 viewers), which aired on a Saturday afternoon. This year's game marked the final game for Galaxy F Landon Donovan. The Galaxy’s win over the Revolution delivered ESPN its largest MLS Cup audience since Galaxy-Dynamo in ’11 drew 1.04 million viewers. That marked David Beckham's first championship with the Galaxy. Boston led all markets for ESPN’s telecast, followed by Providence and L.A. The title match also drew 678,000 viewers on over-the-air net UniMas, up 31% from 517,000 viewers for the Spanish language-telecast last season (Sporting KC-Real Salt Lake). It marks the best MLS audience in UniMas history. The game also drew another 245,000 viewers on cable net Univision Deportes Network, which did not air the game last season. Meanwhile, MLSsoccer.com set a record for MLS Cup digital audience, up 25% from '13, with video consumption up 100%.
