CBS Leads College Football Title Game Overnights Despite Alabama's Rout Of Missouri

CBS drew a 7.7 overnight for Alabama’s 42-13 win over Missouri in the SEC Championship game on Saturday afternoon, down 12% from an 8.7 for Auburn’s 59-42 win over Missouri last year, and down 23% from a 10.0 for Alabama-Georgia in ’12. CBS also drew a 0.9 overnight for Boise State-Fresno State in the Mountain West Championship late Saturday night, down slightly from a 1.0 for Fresno State’s win over Utah State last year. Meanwhile, ABC drew a 6.9 overnight rating for Florida State’s 37-35 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday night, marking the best figure on record for an ACC Championship game. That figure also is up 82% from a 3.8 for FSU’s rout of Duke in the same game last year. Fox drew a 3.7 overnight for Ohio State’s 59-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game on Saturday night, down 56% from an 8.4 for Michigan State’s upset win over OSU last year. Fox also drew a 4.2 overnight for Oregon’s 51-13 win over Arizona in the Pac-12 title game on Friday night. Last year’s Stanford-Arizona State matchup aired on ESPN. Fox drew a 3.4 overnight for the Stanford-UCLA matchup in ’12 (Austin Karp, Assistant Managing Editor).

RECE'S PIECES: ESPN’s Rece Davis drew generally positive reviews on Twitter yesterday for hosting the College Football Playoff selection show. Yahoo Sports’ Dan Wetzel wrote, “Fine work today by @ESPN_ReceDavis. Tremendous pushing of Bob Bowlsby.” The Tuscaloosa News’ Cecil Hurt wrote, “This is a good, news-filled interview with Bowlsby by @ESPN_ReceDavis.” Scout Media’s Brandon Huffman wrote, “Rece Davis doesn't seem to be pulling any punches. Jeff Long doesn't seem to be very good at answering.” The Arizona Daily Star’s Daniel Berk: “Rece Davis asking all the right questions. Jeff Long not answering any of 'em” (TWITTER.com, 12/7).
