Ohio State Takes Top Spot In FBS Attendance From Michigan For First Time Since '97

Ohio State led all FBS teams in average home attendance this season, knocking rival Michigan out of the top spot for the first time since '97. Ohio State averaged 106,296 fans per game, up just 1% from last season. Texas A&M, which expanded Kyle Field in the offseason, ranked No. 2 with 105,123 per game, marking a school record. Texas A&M’s record year included 110,633 fans for the Oct. 11 Ole Miss game, which marked the highest attendance ever for a football game in the state of Texas, as well as for the SEC. Michigan finished No. 3 this season, as attendance in Ann Arbor was down 6%. LSU benefitted from an expanded Tiger Stadium, ranking No. 4 and setting a school record. Attendance in Death Valley was up 11% from ’13, when LSU had its lowest figure since ’02. Auburn, Nebraska and UCLA also set new records this season. Florida State rode its national championship from last season to a 9% increase at Doak Campbell Stadium. Penn State crossed the 100,000 average mark for the first time since ’11. The 101,623 fans per game in Happy Valley marked a 5% increase from '13, when PSU had its lowest attendance since Beaver Stadium was expanded in '01.

BLAZE OF GLORY: UAB’s decision to fold its football program comes as the school saw a 43% jump in attendance this season. The average of 21,841 at Legion Field was UAB’s best mark since ’06 and third-best mark since the program began in ’91. The high mark for UAB attendance was 23,328 in ’03.
