Rockies' Monfort, Bridich Address Fan Concerns About Franchise's Future In Twitter Q&A

The Rockies "opened up to their fans during a live chat on Twitter Friday afternoon," but Owner Dick Monfort, new GM Jeff Bridich and members of the coaching staff "played it fairly close to the vest," according to Patrick Saunders of the DENVER POST. It was "pretty thematic, but there were other, more specific questions about possible trades, free-agent acquisitions, etc. that were handled off the Twitter screen." It is "evident that a contingent of fans are angry about the Rockies’ consistent losing," and "to his credit, Monfort answered some of those critics by promising more victories." Below are excerpts from the Q&A:

Q: Why is this franchise ok with a culture of losing?
Monfort: Plain and simple, we are not okay with losing.

Q: Will our new GM be able to make his own decisions to get the franchise back on track?
Bridich: Autonomy is one thing, collaborative process is another. Collaboration is imperative.

Q: Will any changes be made to Front Office transparency? Think there is an opportunity there?
Monfort: We’ve always tried to be transparent. This chat is the perfect example of that.

Q: Considering negative impression fans seem to have of your ownership record, what can u do to turn it around?
Monfort: I will continue to be myself and care for all Rockies fans. Communicate with you and win more games.

Q: When are you going to sell the team?
Monfort: We have no plans of selling the team.

Q: What’s the plan for the old school video board?
Monfort: We’re in the process of designing a video board like no one has ever seen in baseball (DENVERPOST.com, 11/21).
