Facility Notes

In Milwaukee, Don Walker reports negotiations between reps of the Bucks and Journal Communications involving the sale of the company's property for a new, multipurpose arena "are ongoing, but talks with a key player in the effort -- the Wisconsin Center District -- have yet to begin." WCD Chair Franklyn Gimbel said that he "had not yet been contacted by Bucks representatives to meet about the arena." Sources said that the Bucks "ideally would like to reach agreement with Journal Communications and the Wisconsin Center District at the same time" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 11/21).

COURTING OPINION: In Sacramento, Dale Kasler notes a Third District Court of Appeals on Thursday denied a request from opponents of the Kings' new arena "for an injunction that would have halted construction." The court "upheld a lower-court ruling, issued in July, that said the project could proceed." A dozen Sacramentans "sought an injunction blocking construction under the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 11/21).

SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP: In Boston, Donna Goodison notes the new, second-floor, $4.5M TD Garden ProShop Powered by Reebok, which opens to the public on Saturday at 10:00am ET, "has a 6,000-square-foot sales floor -- more than double that of the old first-floor pro shop," which will remain open at least until January. The store features 30% more products, "a hat wall with nearly 300 styles, two dressing rooms and nine registers." At the jersey kiosk, fans "can choose a name and number and preview their selection, which will be made on-site for same-day pickup." The shop's agreement with Reebok is a "three-year deal" (BOSTON HERALD, 11/21).

RAISING THE ROOF: In N.Y., Naila-Jean Meyers reports the USTA's "long-awaited retractable roof over Ashe Stadium is moving from the realm of imagination into reality in the coming months." The first two of the 24 columns that "will hold up the roof have been installed, the beginning of a steel superstructure that is expected to be completed in time for next summer’s Open." The plan is for the roof to "be finished" by the '16 U.S. Open. The retractable sections of the roof and most of the fabric "will not be added" until after next year's event (N.Y. TIMES, 11/21).
