NFL Week 11 Overnights: Fox Tops Sunday Ratings With Eagles-Packers In Nat'l Window

NFL overnight ratings during yesterday’s Week 11 windows were a mixed bag. Fox led the way with a 17.1 overnight for its national window, which featured the Packers' blowout win over the Eagles in 84% of U.S. markets. That figure is up 2% from a 16.7 for a national window featuring 49ers-Saints in Week 11 last season. Fox regional coverage earlier in the day drew a 10.1 overnight, down 4% from last year. Meanwhile, NBC drew a 13.6 overnight for the Patriots’ 42-20 win over the Colts on “SNF” last night. The net got a win in primetime with the game, which was close at halftime, but then saw the Patriots open up a large lead. The second-half score likely contributed to the 18% drop for the overnight rating compared to Chiefs-Broncos last year. Last night’s game drew a 40.2 local rating in Boston, marking the second-best figure in the market for an “SNF” telecast on record, behind only Packers-Patriots from December ’10. Indianapolis drew a 37.1 local rating for the game. CBS also drew an 11.7 overnight for its singleheader coverage yesterday, up around 13% from Week 11 last year and the best singleheader rating for CBS this season to date (Austin Karp, Assistant Managing Editor).

SCOOP & SCORE: SI.com's Richard Deitsch noted Fox' Jay Glazer "procured exclusive video" of Titans TE Chase Coffman "blind-siding a Ravens assistant coach on the sideline during an interception return last week." Deitsch called the video a "monster get" for Glazer. Glazer said of Coffman's hit, "The Ravens were furious about this and Ken Whisenhunt, the head coach of the Titans, called John Harbaugh to say look, 'It wasn’t intentional,' and the Ravens didn’t really buy that. I’m told the NFL has only fined him $30,000" (SI.com, 11/16). DRAWING FROM EXPERIENCE: In Boston, Chad Finn writes NBC's Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison "are experts who actually are experts, earning that designation based on a deep and not-too-distant past association with a particular player or franchise." Dungy in his early years on the net's "Football Night in America," was "plagued by an issue that faces many ex-coaches and players as they transition to broadcasting: He came across as protective of the players he was most familiar with," starting with Broncos QB Peyton Manning, whom Dungy coached with the Colts. But Dungy recently "has been more forthcoming and nonpartisan." Meanwhile, Harrison is "not a natural ... but he does make it look that way" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/17).

CALLING OUT THE COACHES: In N.Y., Bob Raissman writes Fox' John Lynch "magnified the drama" during yesterday's 49ers-Giants game by "first-guessing" Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's play-calling. Lynch "didn’t get caught up in hysterics." His analysis, "void of technocrap, was cutting and insightful." After Giants WR Rueben Randle "couldn’t come down" with QB Eli Manning’s second-and-goal fade, Lynch "went to work." He "described the Giants’ coaches as 'stubborn' in their confidence of their receiver’s ability to win the one-on-one fade battles." Before third-and-goal, Lynch "didn’t re-heat his point." Instead, he "called a play." Raissman: "In a pressure situation Lynch was specific. He didn’t cop out" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/17).
