Dez Bryant Joins Roc Nation Sports, Points To Marketing Emphasis

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant "has parted ways" with Relativity Sports' Eugene Parker and "joined Jay Z’s Roc Nation sports management team," according to Jon Machota of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Bryant "was represented by Parker when he was drafted by the Cowboys" in '10, but the two "parted ways and Bryant joined Drew Rosenhaus" in December '11. Then in August '12, Bryant "left Rosenhaus and rejoined Parker." Bryant "is in the final year of his rookie contract" with the Cowboys (DALLASNEWS.com, 11/2). ESPN DALLAS' Tim MacMahon wrote Bryant hired Roc Nation to "help him become 'an icon.'" Bryant said that marketing was his "primary motivation in joining Roc Nation, not the negotiations for his next NFL contract," adding that he felt a "personal connection with Jay Z and believes the famous rapper and entrepreneur can help him extend his marketing reach." Bryant said he is open to discussing a contract extension during the season "if it's right." MacMahon noted Bryant's stance on his contract represents a "change of policy" for him. Bryant this summer said that he "would cut off negotiations until the offseason if he didn't reach an agreement with the Cowboys on a contract extension before the regular season started." Sources said that CAA's Tom Condon "has been in discussions with Roc Nation about being involved in partnering with them to help negotiate Bryant's next football contract" (ESPNDALLAS.com, 11/2). ESPN’s Adam Schefter cited sources as saying that Bryant signed with Roc Nation "against the wishes" of Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones (“Sunday NFL Countdown,” ESPN, 11/2). See the full client portfolio of Roc Nation Sports at Resource Guide LIVE.
