WWE Network Scraps Six-Month Commitment Amid Slow Sub Growth In Latest Quarter

WWE this morning said it gained 31,000 subscribers to its over-the-top WWE Network during its most recent fiscal quarter, marking just a 4% net growth to 731,000 total subscribers. The figure involved a high rate of churn, requiring 286,000 gross subscriber additions to achieve that final net growth. And the current total represents an increase of just 64,000 subscribers in the last six months after initially debuting to more than 667,000 subscribers. As a result, its goal of reaching 1 million subscribers by the end of the year now stands in doubt. WWE this morning additionally announced a new pricing plan that removes a prior requirement of a minimum six-month commitment and offers the service at $9.99 per month with the ability to cancel anytime. "Our research combined with best practices in digital subscription businesses affirm our belief that a simple, single price plan will help us continue to grow WWE Network's subscriber base," said WWE Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer Michelle Wilson.
