Facility Notes

MLB Giants Senior VP & Chief Information Officer Bill Schlough said that AT&T Park "will install hundreds of additional under-the-seat Wi-Fi antennas during the offseason as well as some in hand rails." REUTERS’ Rory Carroll noted 38% of fans at the park during the '12 World Series "connected to the network." For this year's World Series Game 5, the number of Wi-Fi users rose by about 12%, but the total amount of data "jumped nearly five-fold" (REUTERS, 10/28).

CHAMPAIGN SUPERNOVA: In Illinois, Marcus Jackson notes a storm line blockage early yesterday morning "caused a backup of water on the floor at State Farm Center, damaging the basketball court" used by the Univ. of Illinois. Construction workers "immediately began cleanup efforts, removing water and installing fans" to dry the floor. It will not be known “until later this week if the basketball court was damaged beyond repair." The school is "prepared to replace the floor" (Champaign NEWS-GAZETTE, 10/29).

NEED FOR SPEED: In New Hampshire, Iain Wilson notes the Racing History Preservation Group, led by former NASCAR pit reporter Dick Berggren, "will lease 2 acres" from New Hampshire Motor Speedway to "build the North East Motor Sports Museum." Plans include a "spring ground-breaking" on the $1M museum. The group last week "approved a 100-year lease with the speedway, at a cost of $1 a year" (CONCORD MONITOR, 10/29).
