Weekend Plans With Padres Dir of Marketing & Brand Activation Katie Jackson: Food, Exercise

During the MLB season, Padres Dir of Marketing & Brand Activation KATIE JACKSON spends much of her time developing marketing strategies, identifying target groups and collecting data for activation. As customer preferences and attitudes keep evolving, sports marketing execs are forced to adapt rapidly. This means many summer weekends are spent traveling to consumer events and maintaining key accounts in efforts to drive brand equity and sales, as well as customer support. But as the ’14 season comes to its conclusion, she can now spend more time enjoying her offseason pastimes such as hanging out with her fiancé and dog, working out, shopping, trying new restaurants and bars, and baking at her home on Coronado Island, Calif.

FRIDAY I’M IN LOVE: This weekend, I am really looking forward to not having to travel and just enjoying San Diego. It’s been a busy baseball season and wedding season with most weekends packed with fun activities out of town. My fiancé and I have a Friday tradition of trying a new restaurant. We try to check out a new one in a different neighborhood each weekend. My favorite local restaurants are the Smoking Goat in North Park and Juniper & Ivy in Little Italy.

SATURDAY IN THE PARK: I usually sleep in until 9:00am at the latest on weekends. This Saturday I plan on going to the Coronado Dog Park. After that, I visit my favorite weekend brunch spot, Leroy’s Kitchen & Lounge. Following breakfast, I enjoy riding my beach cruiser around the island. My weekend workout activities are Crossfit, stand-up paddleboarding or going for a run along the beach. One activity that might surprise people is that I have been practicing riding a motorcycle. This Saturday night, I am going out to a birthday dinner for a friend.

EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING: On Sunday mornings, I get my shopping done at Trader Joe’s or the Open Aire Farmers Market on Girard Avenue in La Jolla. The market closes at 1:00pm, just in time for kickoff of Chiefs-Chargers. After the game I will begin my routine weekend chores such as laundry, cleaning the house and cooking for the week. I organize my breakfast, lunch and snacks into containers for each day. I love to bake chocolate-chip cookies -- and eat the dough along the way -- as well as cinnamon rolls. My guilty weekend pleasure is drinking too much wine catching up on my reality shows. On Sundays nights, I watch my weekly shows HOMELAND and GOOD WIFE.

VALLEY GIRL: When I can get away for the weekend, I enjoy going to S.F. or visiting California wine countries of Sonoma and Napa Valleys. The best weekend trip I’ve had recently was a friend’s bachelorette party in Nashville. If I am traveling for work, I always try to make time to stay connected to texts, e-mail and social media such as Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter. I love working uninterrupted at 37,000 feet. When I have a spare minute, I grab my iPad to continue an unfinished book. My favorite restaurant to visit when I am on the road is Frankies in the West Village of N.Y
