Trail Blazers Record Five-Part Commercial Series For Upcoming TV Campaign

The Trail Blazers on Thursday recorded a commercial for one portion of a five-part series that they "shot in the Portland area this week with players, broadcasters and dancers as well as fans," according to Mike Tokito of the Portland OREGONIAN. As part of Thursday's shoot, there was a "large, metallic black-and-red" Rip City sign in the middle of Pioneer Courthouse Square that was intentionally missing the "i" in "City." It thus read, "Rip C_ty." Blazers Dir of Marketing & Creative Services Ryan Flaherty: "The idea behind this campaign was that you see the sign, obviously you see the 'i' missing in the sign, and we can't have Rip City without our fans." The Blazers next week "will put together commercials from the five Portland-area shoots, as well as shoots scheduled for Pendleton, Hood River and Bend." The spots "will start airing soon on local networks, as well as ESPN and other sports channels." Flaherty: "It's a full TV campaign, so we'll end up at the end of the year with 10 different spots" (Portland OREGONIAN, 10/17).
