Tiger Style: Clemson AD Radakovich Details Renovation Plans For Memorial Stadium

Clemson AD Dan Radakovich yesterday "reaffirmed plans to augment the West Zone of Memorial Stadium," according to Mandrallius Robinson of the GREENVILLE NEWS. Construction on the stadium's oculus, a cylindrical tower topped with a glass window that bears the Clemson logo, will begin at the "conclusion of the season." Radakovich said that the oculus "was part of the third phase of the initial West Zone renovation plans." But he added that the project "has been tweaked to add a functional element to the Death Valley entrance." An expansive walking bridge "will be added through and on each side of the oculus to allow fans to traverse more easily from one side of the stadium to the other." Radakovich added that the suites and club-seating areas on the north side of the stadium "will be upgraded." They "will be modeled partially by the club seating area in the West Zone." Radakovich: "Right now, you walk outside the door of a suite and you're in open air. We'll be enclosing that concourse area, so it'll have more of a hotel rather than a motel feel." Robinson notes Radakovich "did not provide an exact completion date for the projects, but he asserted that both are scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2015 football season." Meanwhile, he said that the upgrades to the baseball team's Doug Kingsmore Stadium, which "include new field level box seats and a new team building, are progressing on schedule." He added that the renovations planned for Littlejohn Coliseum "are scheduled to begin in May." The next project in line "is a new football operations building" (GREENVILLE NEWS, 10/15).
