Syracuse Has No Plans To Play Again At MetLife Stadium Despite Prior Announcement

Syracuse said that it "currently has no current plans to play again" at MetLife Stadium after '16, despite a contract announcement that indicated the school "will play 10 games" at the venue by '38, according to Chris Carlson of the Syracuse POST-STANDARD. Syracuse's initial contract with MetLife Stadium Corporation "covered four games" and a second announcement in '11 "extended it." Syracuse Exec Senior Associate AD & Chief Communications Officer/External Affairs Joe Giansante said that the contract "allows both sides to re-visit the terms of the agreement." He "did not rule out more appearances at neutral sites" after Saturday night's game versus Notre Dame. Giansante added of the likelihood the school will return to the venue, "It has to check all the boxes. It has to check all the boxes this game does. It has to be hugely relevant. It has to be over-the-top from the support standpoint. It has to provide unprecedented exposure. It has to be huge. All the others, when it was agreed to, had that potential." He noted that things "have changed for MetLife Stadium as well," as the deal "was agreed upon when MetLife first opened and had a light schedule of set events." He said that neither Syracuse nor MetLife "would be breaking a contract or using a buyout clause" (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 9/28).

GROUP EFFORT: In Indiana, Eric Hansen reported Groupon "helped pad the attendance" at Saturday night's game, which produced "the largest college crowd in the history' of MetLife Stadium  with 76,802 fans (SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE, 9/28).
