Sources: WFNZ Retains Hornets' Charlotte-Area Radio Rights In Multiyear Deal

Charlotte-based WFNZ-AM has "signed a multiyear agreement" to remain the Hornets' flagship radio station, according to sources cited by Erik Spanberg of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL. The Hornets' contract with WFNZ "expired after last season, and with the combined momentum of a playoff berth and the return of the Hornets name, interest from suitors increased." Rumors over the summer "centered on former flagship WBT-AM landing the Hornets, followed soon after by a possible fast-break" for the new WRFX-FM, a Fox Sports Radio affiliate. But sources said that WFNZ "negotiated a deal that ... is more favorable to the team than previous contracts." Details of "how ad time may be shared and what kind of rights fee, if any, is involved, have yet to be shared" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/25).
