Been There, Done That: Kings To Have Shorter On-Ice Cup Celebration To Start Season

The pregame ceremony to celebrate the NHL Kings' '13-14 Stanley Cup championship "is expected to be shorter and less elaborate" than what the team did after winning the Cup in '12, according to Rich Hammond of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. The team in January '13 "went Hollywood" to celebrate their first title, as the "lengthy pregame ceremony included an on-ice presentation of the championship rings, plus a parade in which players ... passed the Cup to each other one final time." This time around, players are "expected to receive their rings ... during a private event" before start of the Oct. 8 game against the Sharks. The "on-ice pregame ceremony will be significantly streamlined." Kings C Jarret Stoll: "We want to see the banner up there and drop the puck. We want to get the season going" (OCREGISTER.com, 9/24).
