The Arena Football League this morning named SCOTT BUTERA as commissioner, replacing JERRY KURZ, who recently stepped down to become the AFL’s first president. Butera comes to the AFL from Foxwoods Resort Casino where he worked at CEO since '10. Butera said he will focus on boosting the AFL’s profile while growing the league’s sponsorship base. Butera in a statement said, “I am convinced that we can leverage our media contracts to produce increased exposure for the League and the sponsor revenue opportunities that go along with it.” Butera is the AFL’s seventh commissioner (John Lombardo, Staff Writer).

EXECS: USA Table Tennis named Illinois-based Rockford Area Venues & Entertainment Exec Dir & GM GORDON KAYE CEO. Kaye in his previous role managed all business operations for the AHL Rockford IceHogs and BMO Harris Bank Center (USA Table Tennis). Kaye also had previous stints with the ECHL Reading Royals, SMG and the NBA (THE DAILY)....ESPN promoted Senior Dir of Technology & Product Development/Consumer Devices MIKE ANDREWS to the newly created role of VP/Consumer Software Engineering, reporting directly to ESPN Head of Technology AARON LABERGE. Andrew previously led development of WatchESPN and other ESPN digital products (ESPN)....The Single-A South Atlantic League Lakewood BlueClaws named independent Atlantic League Camden Riversharks GM ADAM LORBER Chief Operating & Revenue Officer (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/19)....Colorado-based engineering firm CH2M Hill "will cut back its 26,000-person global staff by 5%, about 1,200 positions, as part of a restructuring it will implement" over the rest of '14 and early '15. CH2M Hill "is program manager for construction of facilities" for the '22 FIFA World Cup in Qatar (ENR.com, 9/18).
