NFL Franchise Notes: Browns' Revamped Uniforms For '15 Are Complete, Under Wraps

ESPN CLEVELAND's Tony Grossi cited a source as saying that the Browns "have chosen three jerseys and two pants styles" to wear beginning next season. The jerseys "are categorized as dark, light and an alternate." The Browns "intend to mix and match jerseys with pants, giving them up to six combinations to wear over the course of a season." Sources previously have said that the color schemes "would remain largely orange, brown and white -- the colors selected by founding coach Paul Brown when the team debuted" in '46. A source "declined to comment on a rumor that a fourth color would be introduced, believed to be metallic gray" (ESPNCLEVELAND.com, 9/21).

FRANCHISE'S FORMER FACE? In St. Paul, Chris Tomasson reported Adrian Peterson child abuse allegations "could hamper" the Vikings economically moving forward. The team "has been using Peterson in promotional material to help sell pricey suites and private seat licenses for when it moves into a new indoor stadium" in downtown Minneapolis in '16. The Vikings "might need to win some games to overcome momentum the Peterson situation could cost them as they prepare to move into a new stadium" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 9/20).

REVITALIZING THE RALPH: In Rochester, Leo Roth notes Ralph Wilson Stadium has “stood the test of time and is shining like a new penny, so bright” prospective co-Owners Terry and Kim Pegula have been “given a lot to think about in terms of keeping the Bills in Orchard Park or moving them to a new downtown stadium.” Even with this “latest, greatest stadium renovation, the pressure is still on Buffalo to keep pace in a league that shares” 80% of revenues. Roth: “Retrofitting the Ralph for a third of what a new downtown stadium would cost sounds prudent but the Pegulas don't strike us as prudent” (ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE, 9/22).

I LOVE L.A.: CBSSPORTS.com’s Jason La Canfora cited sources as saying that the NFL now “believes the Raiders could generate” $2B or more if sold, and “selling the team remains the most likely path for a move” to L.A. But sources said that convincing Owner Mark Davis to “take a few billion to sell the team to one of the league's short-list of owners-in-waiting -- a list headlined” by former Oracle CEO Larry Ellison – “would be one way to fast-track getting to that market.” Otherwise, the Raiders “remain in a difficult conundrum with the landscape for a new deal in northern California bleak and other options like San Antonio having their own economic limitations” (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/20).
