Purple Haze: Ravens Fans Flock To M&T Bank Stadium To Exchange Ray Rice Jerseys

A line of Ravens fans looking to exchange No. 27 Ray Rice jerseys "stretched more than a quarter of the way around M&T Bank Stadium on Friday morning," according to Rick Seltzer of the BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL. Doors opened for the jersey exchange at 8:00am ET, but a Ravens spokesperson said that the "first person in line" arrived at 4:00am ET. The team plans to "provide statistics on the number of fans exchanging jerseys Saturday," but does not have any estimates. Ravens PR Manager Patrick Gleason: "This is all uncharted territory" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/19). In N.Y., Daniel O'Leary notes lines were "stretching way down the sidewalk" outside the stadium and "rivaled any wait" for the new Apple iPhone 6, which went on sale Friday (NYDAILYNEWS.com, 9/19). In Baltimore, Don Markus notes fans can "trade in their Rice jersey for that of a different player" both Friday and Saturday. The jerseys "must be officially licensed by the NFL and manufactured by Nike or Reebok, and they must have been purchased or available for purchase at the M&T Bank Stadium team store or from the team website." An NFL rep "will be on hand to verify the authenticity." A Ravens spokesperson said that if "supplies are unavailable for a fan to get the specific player's jersey he or she wants, those fans will get a voucher and be able to return at a later date" (BALTIMORESUN.com, 9/19).
