VARIETY's Rick Kissell reported NBC yesterday "celebrated its first primetime victory in the 18-49 demo for a full television year in a decade." The net, which "had won the September-May broadcast season in the demo, clinched its 52-week crown with a strong summer." NBC "won in adults 18-49 to make it four straight summers on top." The net "benefited from 18 nights of Winter Olympics coverage, but even with the Sochi Games removed from its average, it still finished ahead of Super Bowl-boosted Fox" (VARIETY.com, 9/16).

WITHOUT THEIR WIDEOUT: In Chicago, Ed Sherman reports Bears WR Brandon Marshall yesterday "didn't make the trip to New York as he did on the previous two Tuesdays in his role as an analyst" for Showtime's "Inside The NFL." Showtime Sports Senior Dir of Communications Chris DeBlasio said that Marshall "wasn't scheduled to appear because the Bears played a Sunday night game in San Francisco." He added that Marshall's absence "wasn't due to him remaining in Chicago Tuesday to get treatment for his injured ankle" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/17).

WARM-UP SKATE: In Denver, Adrian Dater reports the Avalanche's Sept. 26 game against the Canadiens in Quebec City "will be shown on Altitude," marking the "first time in team history that a preseason game will be on TV, home or road." The Avalanche have "never felt the expense of televising a preseason game has been worth any potential returns" (DENVERPOST.com, 9/16).

NO MORE TV FOR ME: In Miami, Barry Jackson reported former NFLer Joe Rose, "one of South Florida’s most recognizable sportscasters, is leaving his job" as WTVJ-NBC’s lead sportscaster "at the end of the year but will remain in radio," as a morning host on WQAM-AM and the Dolphins’ radio analyst on WINZ-AM. WTVJ said that Rose is "retiring after nearly 20 years at the station." But a source said that Rose "has told people that NBC 6 is inexplicably buying out the last year of his contract, and he’s perfectly fine with that (MIAMIHERALD.com, 9/16).
