ESPN.com Set To Unveil Site Redesign That Features Mobile-First Mentality

ESPN.com today is "set to launch its first major site redesign in more than five years, freshening up one of the most popular online sports destinations," according to Jason Abbruzzese of MASHABLE. The new site is built "with a mobile-first mentality, centered around three pillars that are fully responsive." Single columns will be "headed by three main topics: favorites, news and now." ESPN Senior VP/Product Development Ryan Spoon indicated that the design is "part of a broader effort to unite the aesthetics of ESPN's digital properties." Spoon: "Over time, you will hopefully notice that our site and our applications feel connected and familiar." Abbruzzese noted the desktop version of ESPN.com is "noticeably less cluttered than the current site." The top scoreboard and banner ad "remain, leading into white tiles on an off-white background." The general design "will appear familiar to users that frequent other responsive sites." The white background "provides a backdrop for pictures and logos to stand out." While visitors will begin seeing the new site today, they can "expect it to change as ESPN incorporates user tendencies into its design" (MASHABLE.com, 9/15).
