Flyers Chair ED SNIDER on Saturday “shared news that he’s now cancer free after getting a big scare in May.” Snider: “I’m done. I have no cancer. It’s all gone. Well, you never want that Big C, but luckily it’s all gone. I’m totally healthy. It’s gone ... I found out Aug. 13. I had radiation and chemo” (NJ.com, 9/14).

WALK OFF: Cubs 1B ANTHONY RIZZO, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in ’08, will host his third annual 5K on Nov. 16 at Pine Trails Park in Parkland, Fla. His family created the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation after the diagnosis and now the “Walk Off For Cancer” event has “raised more than $200,000.” Part of the proceeds go to the Univ. of Miami, “where Anthony was treated, and the rest goes to families to deal with everything from paying utilities to financing pre-school” (MLB.com, 9/13).

ON THE MEND: Golf HOFer GREG NORMAN is recovering after having his hand “cut badly enough to require surgery to repair nerves.” He was trimming a tree with a chainsaw at his Florida home and “dropped the machine to catch a branch that was falling on him, only to have the weight of the branch force his left arm down upon the blade.” Norman said that “doctors assured him he won’t suffer long-term damage.” Norman on his website wrote, “I look forward to getting back out there to attack that tree” (GOLF WORLD MONDAY, 9/15). Norman: “At least I can still play tennis” (AP, 9/14).

NAMES: Former NFLers RICK UPCHURCH and GENE MINGO, along with former coach DAN REEVES, yesterday were inducted into the Broncos’ Ring of Fame at halftime of the Chiefs-Broncos matchup (DENVERPOST.com, 9/14)....In N.Y., Corey Kilgannon profiled official MLB scorer HOWIE KARPIN, who has worked games for “both the Mets and the Yankees.” Karpin is “now in his 16th season” and “gets paid $160 per game as an employee” of MLB (N.Y. TIMES, 9/14)....A company owned by former NBAer PENNY HARDAWAY has bought a 40,000-square-foot indoor sports facility in Cordova, Tenn., for $1.3M.
