Bills' Home Opener Highly Anticipated With Sellout, But Pegulas Not Expected To Attend

The Bills' home opener against the Dolphins on Sunday at the newly renovated Ralph Wilson Stadium is "arguably the most anticipated" in recent memory, according to Jay Rey of the BUFFALO NEWS. But it "looks as if Bills fans will have to celebrate without their new hero and heroine," prospective Owners Terry and Kim Pegula. As of Thursday, there were "no plans" for the Pegulas to attend the game, "despite their pending deal to buy the team." But Sunday's game still is the "hottest ticket in town," and the team announced that it has "officially sold out and will be televised locally" (BUFFALO NEWS, 9/12). In Buffalo, Tiffany Lankes notes the Pegulas "were in town Wednesday and Thursday to attend previously scheduled meetings and a private fundraising dinner." They "met with leaders" of the Sabres and HarborCenter Development, and "attended the dinner and other meetings." Terry Pegula also "drove himself out of town, heading across the Peace Bridge on his way to a hockey tournament in Michigan." What "doesn’t seem to have been on their itinerary, however, was Bills business," as the couple is "waiting until the sale is complete in October to say any more about the purchase." Kim Pegula said, “We really can’t say anything else right now." The Pegulas’ "low profile on their visit this week matched a demeanor they have maintained since they became prominent local figures" with their purchase of the Sabres in '11. It is "not unusual for them to make appearances in town, though, since they have a residence here and regularly attend to Sabres business." Sources said that the couple "tends to keep to themselves." They "primarily live in Boca Raton, Fla." Bills Senior VP/Communications Scott Berchtold said that he was "not aware of any plan for the Pegulas to be in attendance" for Sunday's game (BUFFALO NEWS, 9/12).
