With Denver PGA Stop Likely Sold Out For Weekend, Finchem Addresses Future Events

This week's PGA Tour BMW Championship in Denver "already is sold out for Sunday and likely will reach the tournament's prescribed cap of 27,000 fans Saturday," according to Tom Kensler of the DENVER POST. PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said of whether the Tour could eventually return to the area, "There wouldn't be any hesitation about a tour event here. We'd be excited about it. We would love to play here on a regular basis. There are great sports fans here. We're seeing it this week. And there are good golf courses here. That being said, we have a full tour schedule, and there is kind of a narrow window (weather-wise) here. You're really talking July 1 to the end of September. That's a busy time on the tour." Finchem agreed that one possibility could be Cherry Hills Country Club "becoming part of a rotation of courses that hosts the BMW" (DENVER POST, 9/5). The PGA Tour has not held a regular event in Colorado since '06, when The International, which was held at Castle Pines Golf Club south of Denver for 20 years, was canceled (THE DAILY).

GEORGIA ON MY MIND: In Atlanta, Rick Limpert notes fans attending next week's Tour Championship by Coca-Cola in Atlanta can expect a "So Cool Zone, courtesy of Southern Co." The zone "will be located between the 5th green and 7th tee," and will "serve as an oasis for fans who want to sample food from Atlanta restaurants, catch a little shade, practice their putting or watch the live telecast on large video screens." Fans also can try Coke's "high-tech touch-operated beverage dispenser that will offer thirsty golf fans more than 100 different Coke products." This also is the "last event where the 'Share a Coke' tour will stop, allowing Coke drinkers to get their name printed on a can for themselves and a friend" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 9/5).
