The Cubs prior to yesterday's game against the Brewers at Wrigley Field honored members of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team, which won the U.S. championship. The players spent time in the dugout and "had a team photo taken with Cubs players, who wore special JRW warmup jerseys, which will be auctioned off to help the program" (Chicago DAILY HERALD, 9/2). The team received "more than a hero's welcome" from the Cubs (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/2).

TENNIS TIE-INS: Former LCD Soundsytem musician JAMES MURPHY is collaborating with IBM developer PATRICK GUNDERSON on "U.S. Open Sessions," a project that will "transform each game of the tennis tournament into a live-streamed electronic score, which Mr. Murphy will then edit, possibly for an album." IBM has posted several video clips to YouTube "to explain the project." The music, so far, "is spacey and Minimalist" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/30)....Former boxer LAILA ALI "spoke with almost two dozen children to promote physical fitness and tennis before swinging the racket with kids." The USTA "is offering thousands of free youth tennis events across the country this month to coincide with the National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month" (NEWSDAY, 8/2).

LASTING LEGACY: In Providence, Jim Donaldson profiled Patriots Owner ROBERT KRAFT, whose "enduring legacy, regardless of what happens in the future," will be turning "a tired old stadium with all the charm of an old warehouse in some office park into the state-of-the-art Gillette Stadium, the glittering centerpiece of Patriot Place." It is a "significant" legacy (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 8/31).

CHARITY STRIPE: The previously anonymous donor that gave $100M to Oregon Health & Science Univ. last month has "been revealed" as Columbia Sportswear Chair GERT BOYLE. The donation "was made to honor her late sister" (AP, 8/31).

NAMES: ABC News consultant DONNA BRAZILE will be the recipient of the '14 WNBA Inspiration Award on Friday in N.Y. (WNBA)….Texas Tech football coach KLIFF KINGSBURY reached a three-year contract extension, keeping him in Lubbock through ’20. Kingsbury’s '15 salary increases to $3.1M (TTU)….Arizona State has “agreed in principle to three-year contract extensions” with men's basketball coach HERB SENDEK and women's basketball coach CHARLI TURNER THORNE. The school “plans to recommend the extensions to the Arizona Board of Regents for approval” (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 9/2)….Sources said that actor WILL FERRELL on Friday at the U.S. Open “was in the Emirates suite to watch ROGER FEDERER play” and met Rangers G HENRIK LUNDQVIST (N.Y.
