UNC-Charlotte Football Program's Season-Ticket Sales Lagging From Inaugural Year

The UNC-Charlotte football team is entering its second year with PSLs renewed at a 98% rate, but AD Judy Rose indicated that season-ticket sales "are about 60 percent of 2013," according to David Scott of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. The team averaged 15,541 fans for its inaugural season in the 15,314-seat Jerry Richardson Stadium, good for "11th-highest in FCS." Rose said that the student allotment of 7,500 "will remain about the same." But if students "don't claim their tickets, they'll be made available to the general public." Rose: "We want to get the message out that we're not sold out for every game." Richardson Stadium "can be expanded incrementally to 40,000 seats, but Rose has said she wants to wait to see how attendance goes in these first few seasons before making that decision." Rose: “I’m looking at supply and demand. If we need to expand, we will.” Scott noted when UNCC moves to C-USA for football in '15, Richardson Stadium "will be the smallest in FBS" until it does expand. Rose said that the football program spent $4.4M in '13 while bringing in $5.8M, "mostly on ticket sales, parking and sponsorships." Meanwhile, she said cancelling classes for potential Thursday- or Friday-night games is "not something we'd ever do" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 8/24).
