Selig Says Any Decision On Indians' Chief Wahoo Logo Will Be Made By Team Ownership

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig yesterday said that any decision about the Indians changing their Chief Wahoo logo "will have to be made by the team itself," according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. Selig: "The club has to make that decision, I have never had anyone call me to raise an issue. I know that for years the Indians have done polls and studies and they kept telling me there was no problem (with the logo). The Atlanta Braves have done the same thing. That's a situation where you have to have faith in the people on the club who are making the decision." Indians Chair & CEO Paul Dolan is on record as saying that the team "will continue to use Chief Wahoo as one of its logos." Meanwhile, Selig "was asked about the Indians' poor attendance at Progressive Field," as the club is currently ranked 29th out of 30 teams, ahead of only the Rays. Selig: "I know they're working hard. I have faith in the Dolans and I certainly have faith in [President Mark Shapiro]. They're still in contention so hopefully they'll pick up" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 7/16).
