Sources: Top Pick Andrew Wiggins Signs Shoe Endorsement Deal With Adidas

Cavaliers rookie F Andrew Wiggins has "signed a shoe endorsement deal with adidas," according to sources cited by Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. Sources said that the contract is a "multiyear deal that comes with a guarantee of at least" $2M annually. Wiggins "wore adidas during his only year" at the Univ. of Kansas. adidas was "pressured to try to secure its future even further with Wiggins" in part because Bulls G Derrick Rose, the company's "highest-paid NBA spokesman, has missed nearly two seasons with injury." The company "recently re-signed" Trail Blazers G Damian Lillard to an "extension that could last for the next 10 seasons" and added Jazz G Dante Exum, who was taken fifth overall in this year's NBA Draft. adidas also shifted Wizards G John Wall from its Reebok brand to its main adidas brand last year and will be "debuting a signature shoe this upcoming season" (ESPN.com, 7/8). In K.C., Rustin Dodd notes the $2M figure is "some nice coin for a rookie," but it "pales in comparison to some of the wild projections bandied about during Wiggins’ freshman season at Kansas." Prior to his first game at KU, a story on Bleacher Report projected his NBA shoe deal "could be worth more than $140 million," though parts of the story "were quickly debunked" (KANSASCITY.com, 7/9).
