Prices Jump On Secondary Market For U.S.-Belgium World Cup Round Of 16 Matchup

Ticket prices for the U.S.-Belgium FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match "jumped" after the matchup was determined on Thursday afternoon, according to Richard Farley of NBCSPORTS.com. The secondary market "originally had tickets going for an average of $850.98" earlier Thursday, but the price on TiqIQ.com was up to $1,031 by 10:00pm ET last night. But some tickets "can be had for as little as $400 each." Those numbers "include prices from all vendors" in TiqIQ’s market, "with seats covering a range of options at Salvador’s Fonte Nova Arena." It is "difficult to see the scope of those numbers, but compared to the markets for the rest of the tournament’s second round matches, tickets for Belgium’s meeting with the U.S. are proving a low-to-mid-range value." While largers markets like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro draw a "huge demand" for matches, ticket sales in smaller cities farther north "may be suffering" (NBCSPORTS.com, 6/26).
