Colorado Springs Olympic Museum Expects USOC Relationship To Help Fundraising

U.S. Olympic Museum BOD President Richard Celeste said that his organization is "near an agreement" with the USOC that would "give the museum Olympic support -- opening the door for venue backers to raise funds on the strength of that relationship," according to Rich Laden of the Colorado Springs GAZETTE. Celeste said that the USOC BOD "met last week and he hopes an announcement" about an agreement for a downtown Colorado Springs museum "could come next week." But Celeste said that the timetable "isn't guaranteed." Laden notes the venue would be built "in southwest downtown, not far" from the USOC's HQ. The museum would "include a hall of fame, a theater, a 20,000-square-foot exhibit hall, retail space and an outdoor plaza." Supporters "have targeted a 2017 opening." Celeste added that museum supporters have "identified companies to design, create and build the venue, although no deals will be signed until negotiations take place" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE, 6/18).
