T'Wolves' Taylor Discusses Political Contributions Ahead Of Star Tribune Purchase

T’Wolves Owner GLEN TAYLOR's "political leanings and contributions are expected to face increasing scrutiny once the sale of the Star Tribune is completed, either later this month or in early July,” according to Baird Helgeson of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Taylor has given more than $1M to "candidates and causes, favoring Republicans,” and has “supported a handful of Democrats, though to a far lesser extent financially.” He said, “I look at people who are closer to my viewpoint. It is kind of a group that represents the 60 percent in the middle of the population, in either party, that I relate to pretty easily.” He said that he has “no intention of coming into the Star Tribune and directing news coverage.” Taylor is “not known for taking strong stands on divisive social issues," and he gave “no money to either side during the two-year fight over whether to legalize same-sex marriage.” However, Taylor said that his WNBA Lynx franchise “emerged as a strong supporter of the successful effort to legalize same-sex marriage” in ‘13. Taylor: “To me, it is a social issue I have evolved on." He added his lack of giving on the issue “doesn’t mean I don’t care, it just means I wasn’t going to put money into it” (STARTRIBUNE.com, 6/15).
