New Nashville Superspeedway Owners Look To Build Out Schedule Beyond Auto Racing

NeXovation Inc. has introduced a plan in which the company's recently acquired Nashville Superspeedway “could be transformed into a ‘52-week-a-year venue’ featuring a wide array of events beyond just auto racing,” according to Humbles & Organ of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. Dover Motorsports, the track's previous owner, had long pitched the facility as a “potential stopping ground for a high-level Sprint Cup NASCAR race, but could never seal the deal because of the track's limited seating capacity.” While the new owners “have a vision, they have no track record in running this type of facility.” The NeXovation team “made a run at buying” Nürburgring racetrack in Germany, but the bid was “ultimately rejected earlier this year.” The company's attention will “now shift to redeveloping” Nashville Superspeedway, which has been “largely dormant” since the ‘11 racing season. NeXovation CEO Robert Sexton said that his company “plans to invest heavily in the facility, beyond just the purchase price.” Sexton added that further announcements are “expected by midsummer” and the facility, which opened in '01, “could open for new events by the end of the year.” Officials said that the deal with Dover Motorsports is “expected to close sometime this fall” (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 5/30).
