Overnight Ratings: Fox' Sprint Cup Telecast Down 9% At Talladega; Wells Fargo Flat

Fox earned a 4.0 overnight rating yesterday for its coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Aaron 499 at Talladega Superspeedway, which saw Denny Hamlin win on a final-lap caution. That figure is down 9% from a 4.4 rating for David Ragan's win there last year. Fox also averaged a 1.0 rating Saturday for its inaugural telecast of Sprint Cup qualifying, which ran from 1:00-2:15pm ET against Game 2 of Bruins-Canadiens on NBC. Meanwhile, ESPN garnered a 1.5 overnight for Elliott Sadler's win Saturday in the Nationwide Series Aaron's 312 at Talladega.

GOING BACK TO THE WELLS: CBS averaged a 2.2 overnight for J.B. Holmes' one-shot win in the final round of yesterday's PGA Tour Wells Fargo Championship, flat compared to last year's telecast, which saw Derek Ernst defeat David Lynn in a playoff. Phil Mickelson finished a shot behind Ernst in '13 and fell out of contention yesterday with a 76, while Tiger Woods did not compete in either year.
