BigTeams Names Clay Walker CEO, Gains Funding For Major National Expansion

Website and software solutions firm BigTeams has hired CLAY WALKER as its CEO and “recently closed a venture capital funding round aimed at fueling a major national expansion,” according to Eric Fisher of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Walker joins the company “after two years” as USA Today Sports Media Group VP of Sports Digital Properties. He stayed on with USA Today’s parent company Gannett “after its early 2012 purchase of Big Lead Sports, the digital media company he helped create” with former NFL Senior VP/New Media & Publishing CHRIS RUSSO. Walker also is a former Players Inc. Senior VP. Funding for the site, which focuses on high school athletic programs, “was led by Capital Sports Ventures.” CSV was founded by former Wizards Exec VP/Business Operations GREG BIBB. Walker will work out of CSV’s office space in Arlington, Va., which “has been set up to help accelerate its partner companies.” BigTeams “represents the first major investment” for the 15-month-old CSV. Walker and Bibb also have “worked together as adjunct professors” at Georgetown Univ. (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/21 issue).
