    The Dolphins hired former Toys ‘R’ Us Exec VP/HR DAN CASPERSEN to oversee the organization’s HR department and former FBI agent JOE CICINI to oversee security efforts. The team also moved Finance & Legal Affairs Specialist BRANDON SHORE to an HR role within the team’s training facility (Dolphins). In Miami, Adam Beasley reports the hiring of Caspersen and Cicini is “part of the franchise’s desire to create a ‘one organization’ culture, bridging the business and football worlds.” Cicini’s FBI background “includes work with the Joint Terrorism Task Force and he has provided crisis management training to the NFL, MLB, NBA and more.” He also has “over 17 years of liaison experience in the South Florida area with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Miami-Dade and Miami police departments.” Meanwhile, longtime Dolphins Dir of Security STUART WEINSTEIN “will remain with the organization in his same capacity” (MIAMI HERALD, 4/22).

He will spearhead the programming of the Brooklyn Hoops college basketball and Brooklyn Boxing franchises at the facility. Manetta also had previous stints as AD at St. John’s Univ. and DePaul Univ. (Barclays Center)….The Oilers appointed AHL Oklahoma City Barons GM BILL SCOTT to the position of Assistant GM, replacing RICKY OLCZYK, who was offered a position within the organization, but has declined (Oilers)….CSE VP/Communications & PR JIM WEISS has left his position to become Atlanta-based Bounce TV Senior VP/Corporate Communications (THE DAILY).

    In N.Y., Ken Belson notes while pro athletes can "afford almost any car, some are shunning gas guzzlers and driving hybrids and electric vehicles." Electric vehicle proponents said that whatever their motivation, "the athletes are, intentionally or not, becoming promoters of the cars." It is "unclear precisely how many athletes drive electric vehicles or hybrids," but players like Lakers G STEVE NASH, Saints QB DREW BREES and Trail Blazers F LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE "drive or drove Teslas and other high-priced electric vehicles and hybrids." Meanwhile, more teams are "installing charging stations at their arenas and stadiums -- not just for their players and other employees, but for their fans" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/22).

    IN THE LEGAL SYSTEM: ESPN NFL analyst KEYSHAWN JOHNSON "has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his ex-girlfriend." Johnson was arrested at his Calabasas, Calif., home yesterday morning on "suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery." ESPN in a statement said that it was "aware of the incident and looking into it" (OCREGISTER.com, 4/21)....Modell's Sporting Goods CEO MITCH MODELL has been accused of "using company funds" for more than $7M in personal expenses, "including family trips, massages and donations and payments" to a private school. ABBY MODELL, the widow of Modell’s brother, MICHAEL, last week filed a petition asking that he "be removed as a trustee" for a trust formed after Michael died (Bergen RECORD, 4/22).
